The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.
[Nice of them, but if I, Themba, were working for WP, I’m not sure I’d call myself “monkey”. I thought the stats would be, perhaps, a bit depressing. Instead they are just hilariously pathetic. It’s a report but it, of course, has absolutely nothing meaningful to say about my writing. Yet, I suspect that the average blogger, thirsting for hits and views and all such sort of statistical euphoria, hangs on exactly these figures. The numerical confirmation of the ego; its stochastic prove of significance in the absence of having anything interesting to communicate. Well, Congrats!]
Here’s an excerpt:
The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,600 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.
[Really? Thinking of people who (mistakenly) click onto my blog in terms of 787Dreamliner passengers yields up some sort of insight? Where do my readers fly to when they are not reading my blog? Can they log into it inflight? And couldn’t it just be a single absurd family of millionaires taking about 400 trips in their private Lear Jet? Would that even make a flipping difference? Dear WP number-grinders you have me at a loss…..]
